Three people have died after a fatal road accident occurred around the Brikama Nyambai forest area, Police Spokesperson confirms.
ASP Conta said the incident happened on Friday 23 June 2017, around 2pm.
Inspector Foday Conta said a passenger vehicle, trademarked Mercedes Benz, locally known as “Gele-Gele”, with registration number BJL 1625 L, was coming from Sere-Kunda when it collided with a commercial Scania truck, with registration number BJL 9183 L; that this happened at the entrance of Nyambai Forest, near Balast Nedam.
He said the passenger vehicle or ‘Gele-Gele’ that was going to the Southern Senegalese province of Casamance, for the “Koriteh” collided with the other vehicle around Nyambai. The driver, he said, attempted to over-take three vehicles at a time when the commercial truck was also coming from the opposite direction.
The two vehicles collided beside the Balast Nedam compound and this resulted to two people losing their lives on the spot, he added. The victims and the two bodies were transported to Brikama Health Center where another person was pronounced dead, bringing the number of casualties to three. Thirteen others sustained serious injuries and were referred to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for medical treatment. The two drivers that were discharged from the hospital are currently helping the police in the investigations.
The office of the Inspector General of Police warns all drivers’ especially commercial drivers to be cautious and observe traffic rules and regulations. The office further advised drivers to avoid unnecessary over speeding and keep regular maintenance of their vehicles as a safety precaution to avoid accidents, since the live to be saved might very well be their own lives.
