Regional Wrestling Championship Billed for June

The regional wrestling championship is scheduled to resume in June according to the Gambia Wrestling Association (GWA).

The three-day event slated to be staged at the Serrekunda East Park beginning June 22nd running through to June 24th  features different categories: 76kg sponsored by GWA, 86kg by Gam Housing, 96kg by MSTE, 100kg Bayba Financial Services and 120 kg by Africell.

Speaking at the press conference, the President of GWA Serign Modou Faye disclosed that a sum of D10,000 is disbursed to each region for preparations of the Championship and the Ministry of Youth and Sports has aided them with D466,000 for the budget.

Faye said the championship is organised as a mandate provided to them by the GWA Constitution which is to organise national wrestling championship. He stated the participants will be hosted at the Friendship Hostel at the Independence Stadium during the course of the championship.

Assistant Secretary General of GWA, Miss. Mama Faal stated that the event is free for every person to attend and each region is expected to come with 8 participants of whom 5 will be the wrestlers and the 3 will be managers and coaches.
