By Kebba Jeffang Pa Ebrima Colley, the Alkalo of Jabang village, Ousman Colley, Mawdo Colley and Ebrima Colley were yesterday, Wednesday, 15th April, 2015 charged with three counts relating to land at the Brikama Magistrates’ court.The accused persons are charged with ‘Conspiracy to commit felony’ contrary to Section 368 of the Criminal Code (CC), ‘obtaining money by false pretence’ contrary to section 288 of CC and ‘disobedience to lawful orders’ contrary to section 116 of CC. Taking their pleas before Principal Magistrate H.U Abeke, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the charges. When the case was mentioned, Sub-Inspector M. Bojang and Chief Inspector Camara appeared for the IGP whilst Lawyer Edward Gomez represented all the accused persons. The particulars of offence on count one states that the accused persons in the year 2014/15 at Jabang village, Kombo North, West Coast Region, in the Republic of the Gambia, have jointly conspired among themselves to commit a felony, thereby committed an offence. On the second count, the same people in the year 2015 at the same place, have obtained an amount of One Hundred and Eighty Thousand from one Dembo Sanyang and sold a portion of a reserved land for Jabang mosque 20 metres by 30 metres with the pretext that the said land belongs to Colley Kunda family, when in fact such representation is false or not true, thereby committed an offence. According to the third and final count, Pa Ebrima Colley did in the year 2015 at Jabang being the Alkalo of the village, receive an instruction from the Office of the President to return the plot of land he has taken from one Sainey Colley of the same address and he refused to do so, thereby committed an offence. They denied all the charges preferred against them. On the issue of bail, the prosecution said they have no objection to the granting of bail. The Court accordingly granted them bail with a bail bond in the sum of Five-Hundred Thousand dalasi (D500,000) each, and ordered them to each produce two Gambian sureties who shall deposit their national Identity Cards.
