Henry Gomez will be the man heading the ministry of Youth and Sports for the new interim government.
Gomez takes up the portfolio after being sworn-in yesterday as part of ministers to comprise Adama Barrow’s government.
Gomez replaces predecessor Alieu K Jammeh who opted to resign days prior to elapse of January 19th deadline for former president Yahya Jammeh to step aside. Alieu was the longest serving sports minister under Yahya Jammeh’s reign.
The new man to lead the position, Henry Gomez, first bust onto the political scene in 2006 when he got turned down to contest for presidency on grounds he hadn’t spent the required number of years in the country to be eligible to vie for the hot-seat.
The GPDP flagbearer is the man appointed to fix the wrongs in a country whose sports had lagged behind and is consistently dogged by bickering aside from the biting problems of poor structures and funding issues, for the last 22 years.
Gomez, it could be recalled, first formed a merger United Democratic Party, Ousainou Darboe, in 2006 before moving to back a three-party coalition dubbed United Front in the 2011elections.
