Former State House employee’s case heard in Chambers

By Lamin Sanyang The lawsuit filed against the state on behalf of Mr. Momodou Sowe, formerMomodou Sowe employee of State House on Tuesday 5 August, proceeded in the chamber of Justice Mikhailu Abdullah of the Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court. Amie Sowe, the wife of Mr Sowe holds that her husband has been held in state custody for almost two years without lawful reason and wants his release. During the proceedings of 31 July, Lawyer Sagarr Jahateh, counsel for the applicant applied for an adjournment to reply to the submissions made by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) about his competency to appear in civil matters. Both lawyers were yesterday, seen entering the chambers of the trial judge. It was later confirmed to this paper that the matter was heard in chambers away from the general public. Meanwhile, information emanating from the Banjul High Court has it that the officials are preparing for vacation and all pending urgent matters would be handed over to a vacation judge.]]>
