By Sulayman Bah Eleonore memorial trophy has commenced over the weekend with Serekunda Primary School football field as hosting venue. The opening fixture which featured Parliament up against Wrong Things saw the two teams brave the torrential rains to ensure the completion of the opener match. The game ended 2-3. The tournament, which was first being hosted in Kanifing and now shifted to Serekunda, is aimed at bringing the youth together, according to Nicola Joof, husband to the deceased. The championship featuring over-30 players has attracted ten teams which are grouped into two categories. The tourney is expected to run till October with D3, 000 for the winner and D2,000 for the runners-up. The tournament was formed in 1998, one year after Eleonores Anastasia Joof passed away.
