By Sulayman Bah The race for the title is getting tenser with only slender points between contending teams with about ten games to the end of the league campaign. The Sateba Boys are fancying their chances to have a go for the staked prize as they pile up pressure on fellow title-chasers.They slimmed down the gap between them and table-topping Gamtel -who have a game in hand -to within three points after their latest win over noisy neighbours Bombada over the weekend. Watched by an impressive turnout of Brikama residents who are divided only by loyalty to the two warring teams, the Brikama-Bombada match zealously dubbed ‘El Classico’ wasn’t one to end without goals. The two teams previous meeting produced a goalless affair but it was a domineering United who were to victoriously paint the town after doing just what they thought of their closest rivals banging them for three unanswered goal. Ebou Kanteh was the star man of the duel playing a leading role in all of Brikama United’s goals. The victory subjects a now faltering Bombada to their sixth defeat of the season after getting off to a flying start in the first phase of the championship ultimately placing Brikama United third on the table on twenty-three points. Elsewhere Serrekunda United drew 5th-placed Gambia Ports Authority while Hawks endured a 3-1 thrashing to Gambia Armed Forces. Earlier, League leaders Gamtel and Champions Real de Banjul were Saturday tied forcing a drop in points. Wallidan ensured competition for the staked prize is intense after drawing Gamtel in a four-goal-thriller at the Brikama Mini-stadium while Banjul United also humbled Real de Banjul in a fixture of Banjul-based clubs. Ismaila Singhateh and Saihou Gassama made sure the points are sliced against Tapha Manneh’s title –hunting troop. Midfielder Alagie Bah raced Real ahead after eight minutes ticked before Banjul United leveled only for Modou Lamin Badjie to double for RDB giving them a halftime lead. However the second-half saw BJL equalize from the spot-kick after star player Pa Omar Babou was bundled before converting the penalty for a final 2-2 score. Elsewhere Interior managed a 2-0 win over faltering and second from bottom Bakau United. The results of the standings still have telecom giants Gamtel atop on twenty-six points one ahead of nemesis Real.]]>
