Last Saturday Modou Barrow wrote his name in the history books – becoming the first Gambian to ever score inBarrow is congratulated after being subbed the English premier league.

So that account is deserving of all the adulations thrown on him on backpages of today’s morning tabloids.

The 22-year-old bamboozled his way past two markers to cut in from the left before unleashing the ball with his favoured left foot to the net.

The goal drew level for the Swans after Ivory Coast Gradel had raced the Cherries (Bournemouth) to the lead with a right footed blast from close range.

Sigurdsson scored for a two-all score but it was Joshua King –A player of Gambian heritage – who spoiled the day for Barrow as his side lost 3-2.

And speaking on post-match, Barrow who ran to France’s striker Bafe Gomis to celebrate, said:  ‘It is a very proud moment for me to become the first Gambian to score in this league (English Premier League) makes me very happy. I wanted to celebrate with Bafe. He has supported me a lot and he told me that if I keep on doing what I’m doing that I will score soon enough. He said that I am quick one v one and that if I have a chance, I can do it.’

Barrow who got subbed in the second-half, continued: ‘My team-mates kept pushing me and I kept working on my finishing. The fans wanted me to score too, and now I can finally get this out of my mind and focus on scoring more goals. It was important to have scored so soon after they had gone ahead. It gave us more confidence and we ended the first half well.”
